Sailing down the Ganges like a boating, camping at the bank of river Ganges, boating through Ghats etc is a different type of experience to see the part of India. Sailing down the Ganges, the holiest river of India, on a cruise starting from holy city of Varanasi and finishing at Patna is a mind blowing experience. Passing through culturally and religiously rich cities this sailing tour is completely a leisurely paced tour which runs parallel to life in un-hurried manner. Chunar Fort of Medieval India and Ramnagar Fort is historical architect in this tour. It’s a perfect way to soak into meditating pace and some quality relaxing time. Craping on the sandy island under the starlit sky is a life time experience. Places on the way of this tour are Varanasi, Chunar, Zamania, Ghazipur, Chausa, Sasaram, Buxar, Arrah, Patna.

Day 01

Reach Varanasi by road, rail or air. On arrival our assistant will meet you and will transfer you to the cruise (transfer from airport or railway station to the cruise is included in the cruise price). From 4pm onwards go on board on your cruise ship and on board enjoy dinner.

DAY 02

At Varanasi take the rowing boats at dawn past the bathing ghats. After having an early breakfast get ready for the sightseeing of the old town, the Hindu University and other monuments then at Ramnagar Fort where your ship will await you, reboard for lunch. In the afternoon visit the fort and Maharajah’s palace then sail upstream towards the great Moghul Fort standing on a cliff above the river at Chunar.

DAY 03

At Chunar after visiting the Fort and the old British cemetery at its foot, cruise downstream again to Varanasi, past the Ghats to a mooring near the railway bridge. In Varanasi visit the Buddhist site at Sarnath and the Deer Park where the Buddha preached his first sermon.

DAY 04

This day will be spent sailing downstream; en route to the riverside is the town of Zamania with a mysterious ancient monolithic column topped with lions which can be visited.

DAY 05

: On arriving Ghazi pur this morning, still a centre for (official) opium production, visit the imposing tomb of Lord Cornwallis, the general defeated by George Washington in 1781 so arguably responsible for the loss of the American colonies. Also visit the crumbling Chihil Sotoun palace and the river ghats. Later sail on to Chausa.

DAY 06

From Chausa to see the astonishing tomb of Sher Shah Suri (1545), standing in the middle of a lake, drive 76km to the town of Sasaram, Drive back to reboard at Buxar, famous for the battle of 1764, which, together with Plassey, laid the foundations of the British raj.

DAY 07

To visit the nearby archaeological site at Chirand, cruise to the busy river port of Doriganj before cruising past the confluence with the Sone River to a ghat from which we visit the spectacular small Moghul tomb at Maner. Do visit the nearby town of Arrah with memorials of the Indian Mutiny/War of Independence if time allows.

DAY 08

Cruise down to Patna to have breakfast, there we disembark and visit the extraordinary 18th century Gola Ghar granary before being transferred to airport or railway station.
